Inspection of hand baggage/personnel effects in the X-ray machine

An agent will approach you and ask you to:

  1. Present any liquids which you have in your cabin baggage
(for more details on liquids, pastes and gels, click HERE) *
European regulations stipulate that liquids, pastes and gels of a capacity less than or equal to 100 ml must be carried in a re-closable 20 cm x 20 cm bag.
  2. Take your computer or large electrical apparatus (radio, hairdryer, etc.) out of your baggage and put it in a separate tray.
  3. Take off your jacket or overcoat. The agent may also ask you to remove your shoes. Plastic shoes are available if you wish.
  4. Put any metal object in a tray (e.g. your watch, belt, keys, mobile telephone, etc.).
  5. Put your baggage on the rollers situated in front of the X-ray machine.

All the trays, and your baggage, are inspected by an X-ray machine.

On completion of the checks, remember to recover all your personnel effects.

Useful information: :

  • If you nevertheless proceed to the security check with liquid(s) in a quantity greater than that permitted, or with an object which is prohibited in cabin baggage, you can leave the liquid or object behind (except for perishable goods) for a maximum of 1 month and recover it on your return (for the sum of 20 € by objet/liquid to cover storage).
  • Wishing to ensure that you are fully informed, we confirm that objects confiscated are handed over daily to a charity in the Charleroi region which gives them to the needy.
  • Any items purchased in the departure lounge, including liquids, drinks, perfumes, etc., are permitted in the cabin, whatever the capacity. You are thus free to buy what you like in the departure lounge.

Going through the metal detector

While you do not have your baggage and personal effects with you, a security agent will ask you to pass through the metal detector.

The agent will decide whether or not a body search is required. This consists of patting the whole body, paying particular attention to the collar, waist and shoes. The body search is carried out by an agent of the same sex as you.

The agent may ask you to remove your shoes.

You should be aware that you can ask the agent who carries out the body search to wear gloves.

Searching your hand baggage and personnel effects

If doubt remains after the X-ray examination, the security agent may request a search of your baggage or personal effects.

This requires you to open your baggage to allow the agent to undertake a detailed search of its contents.

Useful information:

– You can ask the agent who carries out the search to wear gloves

– If during the inspection of your baggage an agent finds liquids in a quantity greater than that permitted, or an object which is prohibited in cabin baggage, you can leave the liquid or object behind (except for perishable goods) for a maximum of 1 month and recover it on your return (for the sum of 20 € by objet/liquid to cover storage)

Thank you in advance for your understanding. The security check is certainly not pleasant, but it is essential for the safety of everyone.
